Artifacts from various periods, from the Bronze Age to the present, have been found at Stratonikeia, a significant group of which are coroplastic artifacts. These range in style from everyday life to theatrical performances, from toys and playthings to figurative brazier handles and cult paraphernalia. This study evaluates 350 terracotta figurines from Stratonikeia, dating from the Archaic Period to the end of the Roman Imperial Period. These artifacts constitute a unique collection uncovered from five separate necropolises in and around Stratonikeia, as well as from the Hecate Sanctuary of Lagina. Thirty signed figurines belonging to nine separate workshops producing between the 2nd century BC and the 2nd century AD were uncovered. Seven of these workshops are known to have been active between the 1st century BC and the 2nd century AD. The terracotta molds, figurine diversity, and signed artifacts discovered in the city demonstrate that figurine production took place there. The works discussed in the book reveal that Stratonikeia and its surroundings were an important center for coroplastic art.
Stratonikeia’da Tunç Çağı’ndan günümüze farklı dönemlere ait eserler bulunmakta ve bunlardan önemli bir grubunu koroplastik eserler oluşturmaktadır. Bunlar günlük yaşamdan tiyatro oyunlarına, oyuncaklardan oyun araçlarına, figürlü mangal tutaçlarından kült malzemelerine kadar farklı konularda çeşitli tiplere sahiptir. Bu çalışmada Arkaik Dönem’den Roma İmparatorluk Dönemi sonlarına kadar Stratonikeia buluntusu olan 350 adet terrakota figürinin
değerlendirilmesi yapılmıştır. Bu eserler, Stratonikeia ve çevresindeki 5 ayrı nekropol ile Lagina Hekate Kutsal Alanı’ndan ele geçirilen özgün bir koleksiyonu oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma içinde MÖ 2. yüzyıl ile MS 2. yüzyıl arasındaki dönemde üretim yapmış 9 ayrı atölyeye ait 30 adet imzalı figürün ele geçirilmiştir. Bu atölyelerden 7’sinin, MÖ 1. yüzyıl ile MS 2. yüzyıl aralığında faaliyette oldukları bilinmektedir. Kentte ele geçen terrakota kalıp, figürin çeşitliliği ve imzalı eserler, burada figürin üretiminin olduğunu kanıtlamaktadır. Kitap içinde ele alınan eserler Stratonikeia ve çevresinin koroplastik sanatı açısından önemli bir merkez olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır.
